Did you perform the Starting System Check ?

  1. Place gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Observe the driver information center (DIC).

Does the message STARTING DISABLED appear on the DIC?

Check the BATT1 fuse in the underhood fuse block for an open.

Is the fuse OK?

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 142 (RED).
  2. Replace the BATT1 fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Is the repair complete?

Check the BATT2 fuse in the underhood fuse block for an open.

Is the fuse OK?

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 342 (RED).
  2. Replace the BATT2 fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Perform the battery load test. Refer to Battery Not Operating Properly .

Check the battery cables and connections.

Are the battery cables and connections OK?

  1. Remove both INJ fuses from the underhood fuse block to prevent the engine from starting.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) set to DC volts scale between the starter solenoid terminal S and ground.

Is the measured voltage greater than the specified range?

8V

  1. Disconnect the CKT 6 (PPL) lead from the starter solenoid.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the the theft deterrent relay terminal E and ground.

Is the measured voltage greater than the specified range?

10V

  1. Connect the CKT 6 (PPL) lead to the starter solenoid.
  2. Connect a DMM between battery positive voltage (B+) and the theft deterrent relay terminal D.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to START.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

Connect a DMM between the theft deterrent relay terminal B and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Connect a DMM between the theft deterrent relay terminal F and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Check for poor terminal contact at starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Check for dirty or poor ground between the starter motor and the engine block.
  3. If OK, replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Repair the open or short to ground in CKT 6 (PPL).

Check for an open in CKT 625 (YEL/BLK).

  1. Connect a DMM between the park/neutral position (PNP) switch connector C1 terminal G and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
