PASS. SIDE SEAT BACK WILL NOT FOLD FORWARD - INST. INERTIA

SUBJECT: PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BACK WILL NOT FOLD FORWARD

MODELS AFFECTED: 1992 ELDORADOS 1993 ELDORADOS (BEFORE VIN 617980) 1993 ALLANTES

Some owners of 1992-1993 Eldorados (built before VIN breakpoint 617980) and 1993 Allantes may experience a condition where the passenger side seat back will not fold forward without using the manual lever on the back of the seat.

This is due to the over sensitivity of the inertia lock along the outboard side of the seat back.

To correct this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove seat from vehicle. Refer to Section 10-10 of the appropriate Service Information Manual.

2. Remove seat back from seat bottom. Refer to Section 10-10 of the appropriate Service Information Manual.

3. Remove inertia lock from seat back by removing two bolts. Refer to Figure 1.

4. Install new inertia lock, P/N 16749284.

5. Install seat back to seat bottom.

6. Install seat in vehicle.

NOTE: Seat backs are designed to lock up either when vehicle is parked going down a fairly steep hill or when the seat itself is positioned so that the seat back is straight up and the seat cushion bottom is full down in front and full up in the rear. In either of these cases, the manual lever on the seat back will have to be used to release the seat back.

Parts are expected to be available on July 12, 1993.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6728 at .7 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
