GLOVE BOX DOOR TO I/P UNEVEN GAP (LOOSEN PANEL & EVEN GAP)

SUBJECT: GLOVE BOX DOOR TO INSTRUMENT PANEL UNEVEN GAP

MODELS AFFECTED: 1992 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES

Some 1992 Eldorados and Sevilles may exhibit a large or uneven gap between the top of the glove box door and the instrument panel wood trim. If this condition is encountered, adjust the glove box door using the procedure described below:

1. Open glove box door and remove the glove box door inner panel (seven screws). Refer to Figure 1.

2. Loosen, but do not remove, the four screws holding the glove box door to its hinge as shown in Figure 1.

3. Reposition the glove box door on the hinge to compensate for the gap to the instrument panel wood trim. Tighten the glove box door hinge screws, close the glove box door, and check for an even gap between the top of the door and the instrument panel wood trim. If the gap is still large or uneven, loosen and reposition the door again. Repeat this adjustment and checking process until the gap is satisfactory.

NOTICE: Use caution when tightening glove box door hinge screws. The glove box door sheet metal is easily stripped if these fasteners are over-tightened. If the door becomes stripped, repair can be accomplished by using identical fasteners in the glove box door hinge repair holes called out in Figure 1.

4. Tighten all glove box door hinge screws and reinstall the glove box door inner panel.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation C2120 at .3 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
