Some customers may comment that one or more of the instrument panel (IP) air outlet vent shut-off doors may close when the blower fan is on high.
This condition may occur when the HVAC system is set for automatic operation or when the air outlet shut-off door is manually adjusted to the open position.
This condition may be due to the control lever on one or more of the air outlet shut-off doors not having sufficient tension to stay in the open position when the blower fan is on high.
Install washer(s), P/N 5462496, between the air outlet duct housing and the control lever at the pivot point in order to increase the tension. Refer to the following repair procedure.
2.1. | Disconnect the electrical connector. |
2.2. | Release the locking tabs on the hazard switch. |
3.1. | Insert a small flat-bladed bent screwdriver or similar tool into the control lever's groove (2). |
3.2. | Push the tool into the air outlet duct housing and press down on the locking tab. |
3.3. | Pull out the control lever. |
5.1. | Ensure the control lever is connected to the thumbwheel linkage (4). |
5.2. | Press the control lever into the air outlet shut-off door until the locking tabs lock. |
5.3. | Verify that the air outlet shut-off door operates properly by rotating the thumbwheel (5). |
6.1. | Press the hazard switch into the bezel until the locking tabs lock. |
6.2. | Connect the electrical connector. |
