Steering Column Ignition Lock Cylinder Binds (Replace Lock Cyl. Case Assem.)

Subject:Steering Column Ignition Lock Cylinder Binds (Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Assembly)

Models:2000 Cadillac DeVille
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint YU315493

Condition

Some customers may comment that they are not able to rotate the ignition key from the LOCK position.

Cause

This condition may be due to plastic particles being scraped from the ignition lock cylinder case during the installation of the lock cylinder assembly. The plastic particles can migrate into the lock cylinder tumbler slots causing the tumblers to bind and the lock bar to stick in the locked position.

Correction

Correction of the above mentioned condition will require replacement of:

    • The ignition lock cylinder case assembly (lock module assembly)
    • The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) module assembly (coded key controller)
    • The ignition lock cylinder assembly

The new ignition lock cylinder case assembly is made of zinc and the new VTD module assembly has the new calibration requirements. Both parts have been released in one kit, P/N 26089463 (Ignition Lock Cylinder Case with Theft Deterrent Module Assembly).
