Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Pull down on the front parking brake cable and remove the intermediate cable from the connector.
  6. Remove the park brake cable from the lever.
  7. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
  8. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  9. Remove hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  10. Remove the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 370684  Size: SH
  12. Remove the backing plate bolts.
  13. Remove the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 370684  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts.
  3. 2.1.  Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 or Red LOCTITEâ„¢ #272 to the threads of the bolt.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the backing plate bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  6. Install the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  7. Adjust the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .
  8. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  9. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  10. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
  11. Install the park brake cable to the lever.
  12. Pull down on the front parking brake cable and connect the intermediate cable from the connector.
  13. Install the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  14. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Remove the safety stands.
  16. Lower vehicle.
