Adjust Link Replacement FE1, FE3

Tools Required

J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 397546  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the hex nut from the adjustment link.

  3. Object Number: 561644  Size: SH
  4. Using the J 24319-B separate the adjustment link (1) from the control arm (2).
  5. Using a block of wood and a suitable jack, support the rear support assembly.

  6. Object Number: 154308  Size: SH
  7. Remove the exhaust. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  8. Object Number: 105036  Size: SH
  9. Remove the two rear support assembly bolts and lower the support assembly.

  10. Object Number: 105028  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cam lock nut and the bolt.
  12. Remove the adjustment link from the support assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 105028  Size: SH
  1. Install the adjustment link to the support assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the cam lock nut, washer and bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the cam lock nut to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  5. Install the adjustment link to the control arm nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) then tighten an additional 180 degrees.

  7. Raise the support assembly.
  8. Install the rear two bolts in the support assembly to the body of the vehicle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the support bolts to 191 N·m (141 lb ft).

  10. Remove the exhaust. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Check the rear toe adjustment. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the hex nut from the adjustment link.

  3. Object Number: 561644  Size: SH
  4. Using the J 24319-B separate the adjustment link (1) from the control arm (2).

  5. Object Number: 475482  Size: SH
  6. Remove the support bracket bolts from the center support (1).
  7. Using a block of wood and suitable jack, support the rear support assembly.

  8. Object Number: 154308  Size: SH
  9. Remove the exhaust. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  10. Object Number: 105036  Size: SH
  11. Remove two rear support assembly bolts and lower the support assembly.

  12. Object Number: 105028  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cam lock nut and the bolt.
  14. Remove the adjustment link from the support assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the adjustment link to the support assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   4. Tighten
    Tighten the cam lock nut to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  5. Install the adjustment link to the control arm hex nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the hex nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) then an additional 200 degrees.

  7. Raise the support assembly and the exhaust.
  8. Install the rear two bolts in the support assembly to the body of the vehicle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the support bolts to 207 N·m (153 lb ft).

  10. Install the exhaust. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  11. Object Number: 475482  Size: SH
  12. Install the center support bracket bolts (1).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the center support bracket bolts to 128 N·m (94 lb ft)

  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Check the rear toe adjustment. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
