Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disconnect connector C4 from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  2. Measure the voltage from connector C4 of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil terminal A (harness side) to ground.

Does the voltage measure in the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step  9

Inspect the 2A switch fuse in the steering column fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Repair the short to ground in the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil or the steering wheel control switch.

Did you complete the repair?

Repair the open or the short to ground in CKT 240 (ORN).

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Press and hold the steering wheel control VOL DOWN switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from connector C4 of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil terminals A to C (steering column side).

Does the resistance measure in the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

Go to Step  12

  2. Press and hold the steering wheel control VOL DOWN switch.
  3. Measure the resistance from the steering wheel control switch connector terminals A to C.

Does the resistance measure in the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.

Inspect CKT 1796 (DK BLU) for an open, a short to ground, or high resistance.

Is CKT 1796 (DK BLU) OK?

Repair the open, the short to ground or the high resistance in CKT 1796 (DK BLU).

Replace the radio.
