GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Important: Do not use the mini discs called singles (7.8 cm (3 in) in diameter). These discs will not eject from the player. The discs may lodge in the player, even if you use the player with an adapter.

Store and handle compact discs in the same manner as conventional records. Further cleaning is not necessary if the disc is always held by the edges and returned to the case immediately after use.

If the compact disc becomes soiled by any of the following materials, wipe the disc in a straight line from the center to the edge using a clean lint-free, soft, dry cloth:

    • Fingerprints
    • Dirt
    • Dust

Do not use any solvent or abrasive cleaner on the disc. DO NOT use a conventional record cleaner. Inexpensive, dedicated disc cleaning kits are available and recommended.

Although the discs are quite durable, certain conditions may affect playback performance, resulting in one or more of the following conditions:

    • Noise
    • Skipping
    • Muting

Inspect the disc and the player for the following items when diagnosing conditions:

    • Scratches on either the top surface or the bottom surface of the disc, particularly the bottom (opposite the label)
    • Presence of the following materials on either surface:
       - Dirt
       - Dust
       - Fingerprints
    • A warped disc, which may result from playing a cold disc in a warm unit or vice versa
    • Moisture (or condensation) on the disc or in the player, which may result in one of the following conditions:
       - ERR display
       - Muting
       - Ejecting of the disc
    • Increased skipping due to the following conditions:
       - Excessive interior temperatures
       - Excessive operating temperatures
