  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the cellular telephone module connector.
  3. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  4. Use a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) set to DC scale in order to measure the voltage between the cellular telephone module connector terminal A and ground.

Is battery voltage present at both of the terminals?

Is the cellular telephone a fixed type?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 40 (ORN). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the handset-to-cellular telephone handset interface cord using a known good cord.

Is the voice now transmitted?

Go to Step 7

Replace the handset-to-phone cellular telephone handset interface cord using a known good part.

Is the voice now transmitted?

Replace the cellular telephone handset interface to the harness connector jumper with a known good part.

Is voice now transmitted?

Replace the handset.

Replace the handset with a known good handset.

Is the voice now transmitted?

  1. Inspect all of the connectors for the proper terminal contact.
  2. If the contact is OK, replace the cellular telephone module.
