Circuit Description

The oil level switch is a magnetic reed float style switch which is closed with oil level full and open when oil level is low. With the test conditions met it is normal for the oil level switch to indicate low oil level. This diagnostic monitors the oil level switch input signal, If the test conditions are met and the switch indicates oil level full with no transition of the oil level switch for a specific lenth of time, DTC 1617 will set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Engine running.
    • Vehicle speed is 3 MPH or greater.
    • Engine speed is 2000 RPM or greater.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    •  The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
