VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982-1983 CADILLAC 'C' SERIES VEHICLES
EQUIPPED WITH THM 200-4R TRANSMISSIONS
SOME 1982 AND 1983 CADILLAC C CARS, BUILT PRIOR TO B.C. 113032,
EQUIPPED WITH HT4100 ENGINES AND THM 200-4R TRANSMISSIONS MAY
EXPERIENCE DELAY AND/OR HARSHER THAN NORMAL TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS
(ESPECIALLY THE 1-2). THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY A MISROUTED
TRANSMISSION TV CABLE THAT RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ADJUSTMENT BETWEEN
THE CABLE ACTUATING LEVER ON THE THROTTLE LINKAGE AND THE TV LINK IN
THE TRANSMISSION.
WHEN DIAGNOSING VEHICLES EXHIBITING THIS CONDITION, INSPECT THE TV
CABLE HOUSING AT THE LOCATOR CLIP FOR ANY INDICATION OF THE HOUSING
HAVING BEEN MOVED 10-15 MM (3/4 TO 1 INCH) FROM THE ORIGINAL SWAGED
MARK CAUSED BY THE CLIP (REFER TO FIGURE 1, VIEW A). IF THE CABLE
HAS BEEN MOVED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POSITION, IT WILL BE NECESSARY
TO REROUTE THE CABLE TO ITS CORRECT POSITION PRIOR TO ADJUSTMENT
OF THE TV CABLE. REPLACEMENT OF THE CABLE ASSEMBLY (P/N 1623543)
IS NECESSARY ONLY IF THE CABLE BINDS OR STICKS BECAUSE OF ITS
BEING KINKED IN THE LOCATOR CLIP AREA.
THE CABLE SHOULD BE ROUTED AROUND THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WIRING
HARNESS, HEI DISTRIBUTOR, AIR PIPES, AND THE MANIFOLD VACUUM PIPES
AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1.
FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES, TO REROUTE THE TV CABLE, USE MOST APPLICABLE
LABOUR OPERATION FROM CANADIAN LABOUR TIME GUIDE AND CLAIM .4 HOURS.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional
technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform
those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or
to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a
vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools,
safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely.
If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies
to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See
a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors
vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from
the information.
