R-4 TEFLON A/C COMPRESSOR SEAL SHAFT SEAL LEAK INFORMATION

SOME 1983 "C" SERIES WERE BUILT UTILIZING A NEW TEFLON R SINGLE LIP COMPRESSOR SHAFT NUMBERS 269446 IDENTITY, THE R-4 COMPRESSORS EMPLOYING THE TEFLON R SEAL HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SPECIAL PART NUMBER 1131479. THE NEW TEFLON R SEAL IS A ONE-PIECE SEAL (FIGURE 1) AS COMPARED TO THE CURRENT TWO-PIECE CERAMIC/CARBON SEAL (FIGURE 2). IF THE TEFLON R SEAL LEAKS, IT SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A TWO-PIECE CERAMIC/CARBON SEAL (SEAL KIT P/N 9956695). THE TEFLON R SEAL MAY BE REMOVED WITH A/C SPECIAL TOOL J-23128-A (DESIGNED TO REMOVE THE CERAMIC SEAL SEAT). THE CERAMIC/CARBON SEAL SHOULD BE INSTALLED FOLLOWING PROCEDURES OUTLINED IN THE 1983 CADILLAC SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL, PAGE 1B-9. SEE ILLUSTRATION
