TRANS OIL LEAK/THM200-4R FLYWHEEL COVER INTERFERENCE

TRANSMISSION OIL LEAK - THM 200-4R

Early production 1983 Devilles and Broughams equipped with HT4100 engines and THM 200-4R transmissions may experience a transmission oil leak at the front edge of the transmission oil pan. This condition can be caused by interference between the back-edge of the flywheel cover and the front edge of the transmission oil pan flange. Beginning at vehicle broadcast number 173549, a new design flywheel cover (P/N 1627822) was put into production to eliminate the interference described above.

Vehicles exhibiting this condition can be corrected by removing approximately 2-4mm (1/16 - 1/8 in.) from the top, rear edge of the two radii and back edge on the flywheel cover with a file or grinder (Figure 1). Before resealing the transmission oil pan with RTV (do not use a gasket), make certain its flange is not deformed.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation Number T6071 at .7 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
