Poor Navigation Radio Voice Recognition Performance - keywords inoperative microphone onstar voice

Subject:Poor Navigation Radio Voice Recognition Performance

Models:2008 Cadillac DTS W/RPO UE1 & U3R

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers with Navigation Radio (U3R) on a 2008 Cadillac DTS may report poor or no operation of the Navigation radio voice or speech recognition system. The system may fail to detect the command or will confuse the command to that of another command as stated by the user.

If this voice or speech recognition concern is isolated to those commands invoked by push to talk button located on the steering wheel and if when the hands-free calling (White Phone Icon) button on the mirror assembly, the OnStar® voice recognition works properly, the concern is isolated to an internal audio pass-thru function within the OnStar module and not the fault of the navigation radio or the microphone or its inputs.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Permanent corrective action is currently under review by both OnStar® and General Motors Engineering. However a very limited number of replacement VCIM, to which have undergone a screening process for Speech or Voice recognition, are available for use in improving the Speech or Voice recognition performance. These screened parts while providing improved performance do not completely eliminate the concern. These screened parts will only be shipped to those dealers to which have a customer condition/concern as outlined above and for the vehicle/RPO application(s). All other concerns or request for ordered parts will be filled using the normal (non-screen) replacement units.

A technical bulletin will issued upon determination of final corrective action.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
