The throttle body attaching bolt torque and the fuel rail attaching bolt torque specifications are incorrect in some areas of the Service Manual. The correct torque specifications should be:
Throttle body to plenum attaching bolts -- 25 N-m (18 lbs. ft.)
Fuel rail to intake manifold attaching bolts -- 10 N-m (88 lbs. in.)
Intake plenum attaching bolts -- 21 N-m (16 lbs. ft.)
The above corrections should be made in the Service Manual at the following locations:
1987 Cimarron Service Manual
- Figure C2-8, page 6E3-C2-7 -- change Item 5 torque to read (88 lbs. in.).
- Page 6E3-C2-7, column 2, "Fuel Rail Installation" -- after installation step two, change to "Tighten attaching bolts to 10 N-m (88 lbs. in.)".
1988 Cimarron Service Manual
- Figure C2-11, page 6E3-C2-7 -- change Item 5 torque to read 10 N-m (88 lbs. in.).
- Page 6E3-C2-9, column 1, "Plenum Installation" -- after installation step 5, change to "Tighten throttle body bolts to 25 N-m (18 lbs. ft.)".
- Page 6E3-C2-10, top of column 1 -- change to "Tighten attaching bolts to 10 N-m (88 lbs. in.)".
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
