Some 1987 Cimarrons may experience a condition of an intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light and a false Code 43 setting. This condition will occur at part throttle between 3400 and 4400 RPM.
This condition may be caused by an ECM Mem-Cal with a broadcast code that is listed in the "Previous Broadcast Code" column in the chart below.
To repair this condition, replace the Mem-Cal with the appropriate service part number listed below.
Service Service Previous Emission Part Mem-Cal Broadcast Broadcast System Transaxle Number I.D. * Code+ Code -------- --------- -------- -------- --------- ---------- FED Auto 16073192 3193 ADRY ADDB FED Man 16073212 3213 ADSC ADDH CAL Auto 16073196 3197 ADRZ ADDC CAL Man 16073216 3217 ADSD ADDJ
* Mem-Cal I.D. can be read with a scan tool connected to the ALDL link. +Broadcast Code can be seen through the access hole on the top side of the Mem-Cal cover.
If replacing the Mem-Cal does not repair the condition, proceed with normal diagnosis for Code 43 as described in Section 6E3 of the 1987 Cimarron Service Information Manual.
For warranty purposes, use labor operation J6364 at .6 hours when replacing a Mem-Cal.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
