Tools Required

1. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .



2. Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke boot retaining strap.
3. Slide the slip yoke boot back.




Important: Reference mark the propeller shaft at the slip yoke in order to retain proper propeller shaft phasing and to ensure correct spline alignment.

4. Reference mark the propeller shaft at the slip yoke.
5. Separate the propeller shaft halves.
6. Remove the slip yoke boot.



7. Remove the front propeller shaft bearing retaining ring (1) from the journal.



8. Remove the slinger (1).



9. Remove the bracket bolts (1) and washers (2).
10. Remove the bracket (3) from the insulator (4).




Important: Ensure that only the inner bearing race is supported by the tool.

11. Install the J 22912-B on the shaft.
12. Support the J 22912-B in a vice.
13. Drive the propeller shaft from the bearing using a soft-faced deadblow hammer.
14. Remove the rear slinger.

1. Install the rear slinger.



2. Using the J 42110 , install the bearing (1) onto the stub shaft.



3. Install the bracket (3) to the insulator.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the bracket bolts (1) and washers (2).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).




5. Install the slinger (1).



6. Install the retaining ring (1).



7. Install the slip yoke boot onto the propeller shaft.
8. Clean the slip yoke journal mating surfaces.
9. Lubricate the slip yoke journal splines with grease, GM P/N 12345740 or equivalent.




Important: The propeller shaft halves should join with little effort when properly aligned. Do not force the propeller shaft halves together.

10. Align the reference marks on the propeller shaft halves.
11. Join the propeller shaft halves.



12. Install the slip yoke boot strap.
13. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
