Removal Procedure

Caution: Allow sufficient time for the engine to cool before removing the ECT sensor. A hot engine may cause an excessive coolant loss or a personal injury.

  1. Partially drain the coolant system.
  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.0L (L81).
  3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

  4. Object Number: 658781 Size: SH
  5. Remove the ECT sensor (1) from the coolant bridge.
  6. Clean any spilled coolant.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 658781 Size: SH

Notice: Apply a non-hardening sealer to the sensor threads prior to installation in order to prevent coolant leaks. Use P/N 1050805 or the equivalent

Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

  1. Install the ECT sensor (1) into the coolant bridge.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Connect the wiring harness to the ECT sensor.
  4. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Installation in Engine Mechanical-3.0L (L81).
  5. Refill the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
