Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool command the trunk lid release relay on.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 12

Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the trunk lid release relay.
  2. Connect a fused jumper across the solenoid side of the trunk lid release relay contacts in the fuse block.
  3. Momentarily connect a fused jumper across the switch side of the trunk lid release relay contacts in the fuse block.

Did the rear compartment release?

Go to Step 17

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive circuit of the trunk lid release relay and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid lock release actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between control circuit of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery voltage circuit of the trunk lid release relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the control circuit of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid lock release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
