Power Mirror System Components

The power mirror system consists of the following components:

    • Driver outside rearview mirror
    • Passenger outside rearview mirror
    • Driver door switch, consisting of:
       - Power mirror directional switch
       - Power mirror select switch
    • Memory seat module (MSM)
    • 10 amp O/S MIRROR Fuse 13.

Power Mirror System Operation w/o AG8

The power mirror switch portion of the driver door switch receives power through the battery positive voltage circuit from the 10A O/S MIRROR Fuse 13. The power mirror switch also receives a constant ground through the driver door switch.

The four positions of the directional switch have dual switch contacts. Each of the contacts are connected to opposing sides of the appropriate power mirror motors through the select switch. The select switch completes these circuits depending on the position of the select switch (L or R).

If the select switch is placed in the L position and the up switch is depressed, battery positive voltage will be supplied to the driver outside rearview mirror vertical motor through the driver mirror motor down control circuit and ground through the mirror motor control circuit. If the down switch is depressed, battery positive voltage will be supplied to the driver outside rearview mirror vertical motor through the mirror motor control circuit and ground through the driver mirror motor down control circuit.

The remainder of the mirror functions operate in the same manner as described above. Placing the power mirror switch in opposing positions (left/right or up/down) will reverse the polarity to the mirror motor.

Power Mirror System Operation w/AG8

The memory seat module (MSM) receives mirror position signals from the mirror horizontal and vertical position sensors. These signals are used by the MSM during memory recall to determine the positions of the driver and passenger outside rearview mirrors. The MSM commands the memory mirror settings based on the voltage level received from the position sensors. The MSM supplies a 5 volt reference and reference ground to the position sensors. The vertical and horizontal position sensors are variable resistors that allow the MSM to monitor the voltage level across the signal circuit.

Heated Outside Mirror System Operation

Battery positive voltage is supplied to the heated outside rearview mirror and rear window defogger relay switch. Ignition 3 positive voltage is supplied to the heated outside rearview mirror and rear window defogger relay coil. Ground for the heated outside rearview mirror and rear window defogger relay coil is provided by G103. When you start the engine, and depress the rear window defogger switch. The HVAC control module energizes the heated outside rearview mirror and rear window defogger relay by momentarily supplying battery positive voltage to the control circuit of the relay. This allows battery positive voltage to the heated outside rearview mirrors. Ground for the heated outside rearview mirrors is provided by G200.
