The vehicle bumpers are designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 8 km/h (5 mph) with minimal damage. The energy absorbers rebound to 80 to 90 percent of their original position after absorbing the energy of the collision. The energy absorbers capability of the front bumper system and the rear bumper system is achieved through a foam type energy absorber structure under each fascia and by the energy absorbing that attaches to the frame.

The front bumper fascia and rear bumper fascia are made of urethane. The urethane bumpers withstand minor impact and the bumpers return to their original shape.

Refer to Plastic Identification and Refinishing Systems for fascia repair and/or for fascia refinishing. Take care around theft deterrent labels.

Bumper Impact Bars

The front bumper impact bar and the rear bumper impact bars are stamped steel. The bumper impact bars attach to the energy absorbers.

Energy Absorbing (Bumpers)

The front bumper system is designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 8 km/h (5 mph) with minimal damage. The rear bumper system is designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 4 km/h (2.5 mph) with minimal damage. The energy absorbers attach to the vehicle's frame and to the mounting points at each end of the bumper impact bar. The energy absorbers collapse on impact.
