Inspect the front brake lining and sensors for wear, damage to sensors and sensor wire chafing.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Disconnect the LH brake pad wear sensor.

Does the brake pad wear warning indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the RH brake pad wear sensor.
  2. Test the circuit between the LH brake pad wear sensor harness connector terminal 3 and the RH brake pad wear sensor harness connector terminal 2 for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Measure the voltage from terminal 2 of the LH brake pad wear sensor harness connector and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Verify brake pad wear indicator operation:

  1. Reconnect all connectors and components previousaly removed.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Disconnect one of the brake pad wear sensor connectors.
  4. Observe the brake pad wear indicator lamp on the gauge cluster.

Does the indicator lamp illuminate?

System OK

  1. Remove the instrument cluster.
  2. Inspect the integrity of the brake pad wear indicator bulb.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the circuit from terminal 2 of the LH brake pad wear sensor harness connector and the gauge cluster connector terminal 2 for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the gauge cluster connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
