Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: The low washer fluid indicator is inoperative or always on.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Verify that the washer fluid container is more than half full.
  2. Turn the ignition on.

Does the low washer fluid indicator illuminate for approximately 3 seconds and turn off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Does the low washer fluid indicator remain illuminated with the ignition on?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the washer fluid level switch connector.
  3. Turn the ignition on.

Does the low washer fluid indicator remain illuminated with the ignition on?

Go to Step 10

Test and repair the washer fluid level switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the low washer fluid indicator lamp for an open and replace if necessary. Refer to Instrument Cluster Indicator Lamp Replacement .

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the washer fluid level switch connector.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire from the washer fluid level switch signal circuit terminal to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition on.

Does the low washer fluid indicator illuminate for approximately 3 seconds and turn off?

Go to Step 9

Test and repair the washer fluid level switch signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the washer fluid level switch ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield washer fluid level switch. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Level Switch Replacement .

Important: After the IPC replacement procedure has been completed it will be necessary to program the replacement IPC.

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
