Shift Lever Rod Adjustment

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Position the shift lever in PARK.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 158363  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the adjustment bolt (1) to allow the adjuster to slide freely.

  6. Hold the selector lever on transmission against the rear stop to eliminate any play.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the shift control linkage adjustment bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  8. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Inspect the operation of starting system with shift lever in each position. The engine should only crank when the lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL position.
