Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the charge lamp indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the charge lamp indicator circuit from the generator.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the charge lamp indicator circuit and ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the charge lamp indicator illuminate?

Go to Charging System Test

Go to Step 4

Test the charge lamp indicator circuit for a high resistance or open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the charge lamp indicator bulb in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the charge lamp indicator bulb. Refer to Instrument Cluster Indicator Lamp Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
