  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Close all the doors on the vehicle.
  3. Open the rear compartment.

Does the rear compartment courtesy lamp illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. With the rear compartment open.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

Did the rear compartment courtesy lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment courtesy lamp.
  2. Probe the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Probe the ground circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp with a test lamp that is connected to B+.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Test for an open or a high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or a high resistance in the rear compartment courtesy lamp signal circuit of the BCM connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open or a high resistance in the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the rear compartment courtesy lamp bulb. Refer to Rear Compartment Lamp.

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the rear compartment courtesy lamp operates properly.
