Removal Procedure
- Place the shift control lever in Neutral.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust muffler
to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
- Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
- Remove the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
- Lower the transmission enough to provide access to the shift position
switch.
- Remove the shift position switch shield.
- Remove the shift position
switch wire harness connector (1) from the bracket (2).
- Remove the transmission
range selector shaft nut.
- Remove the transmission range selector lever.
- Remove the shift position
switch bolts (1).
- Remove the shift position switch (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the shift position
switch (2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Adjust the shift
position switch.
Tighten
Tighten the shift position switch bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install the shift position switch bolts (1).
- Install the transmission range selector lever.
- Install the transmission
range selector shaft nut.
- Install the shift postion
switch wire harness connector (1) to the bracket (2). Use a plastic tie strap
if the connector clip is broken.
- Install the shift position switch shield.
- Raise the transmission into position.
- Install the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the transmission crossmember to body bolts to 45 N·m
(33 lb ft).
- Remove the transmission jack.
- Install the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts to
40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
Switch Adjustment
- Apply the parking brake.
- Position the selector to N.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the shift position switch shield.
- Remove the nut form the range selector lever.
- Disconnect the shift position switch electrical connector.
- Connect a multimeter (ohms scale) to terminal E and H on the shift
position switch electrical connector.
- Loosen both shift position
switch bolts.
- Rotate the shift position switch slightly in both directions to
determine the range of continuity (approximately 5 degrees).
- Position the shift position
switch in the middle of the continuity range.

- Tighten the shift
position switch switch bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the shift position switch bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Remove the multimeter.
- Install the shift postion switch wire harness connector. Use a
plastic tie strap if the connector clip is broken.
- Install the range selector lever.
Tighten
Tighten the range selector lever nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the shift position switch shield.
- Lower the vehicle.
