J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in this section.
  4. Remove the wheel bearing hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  5. Remove the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement in Park Brake.

  6. Object Number: 219684  Size: SH
  7. Use the J 42072 to remove the backing plate bolts (1) from the brake backing plate (2).

  8. Object Number: 219690  Size: SH
  9. Remove the parking brake anchor (3) from the brake backing plate (2).
  10. Remove the brake backing plate (2) from the axle control arm (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 389515  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake shoe retaining pins, if removed.

  2. Object Number: 219690  Size: SH
  3. Install the brake backing plate (2) to the axle control arm (1).
  4. Install the parking brake anchor (3) to the brake backing plate (2).

  5. Object Number: 219684  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Use theJ 42072 to install the backing plate bolts (1) to the brake backing plate (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement in Park Brake.
  9. Install the wheel bearing hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  10. Install the rear brake rotor.Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in this section.
  11. Test the parking brake operation. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment in Park Brake.
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
