The engine control module (ECM) employs an internal module in order to continuously monitor the knock sensor (KS) control circuit. The KS module contains the circuitry that allows the ECM to utilize the KS signals and diagnose the KS sensors and circuitry. The KS module is not a replaceable component. If the ECM detects a fault in the ability of the KS module to sample these signals, this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will set.
• | Tested continuously |
• | The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is more than 40°C (104°F). |
The ECM detects a fault in the internal knock sensor module.
• | The control module stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails. |
• | The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate. |
• | The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Failure Records. |
• | The driver information center, if equipped, may display a message. |
• | A current DTC Last Test Failed clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. |
• | A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other non-emission related diagnostic. |
• | Clear the DTC with a scan tool. |
