Removal Procedure

Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.0L (L81).
  3. Place a shop towel under the fuel pressure regulator to absorb any lost fuel when removing the regulator.
  4. Remove the atmospheric vent hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  5. Remove the fuel pressure regulator clamp bolt.
  6. Important: Note the position of the atmospheric vent on the fuel pressure regulator so that it can later be installed in the same position.

  7. Spread the clamp enough to allow it to be removed from the fuel pressure regulator.
  8. Twist the fuel pressure regulator while pulling out to remove it from the fuel rail.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the O-rings on the fuel pressure regulator before installing it into the fuel rail.
  2. Important: Be sure to locate the atmospheric vent on the fuel pressure regulator, in the same position that the vent was originally located.

  3. Twist the regulator while pushing the regulator into the fuel rail until seated.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuel pressure regulator clamp bolt.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the clamp bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  7. Install the atmospheric vent hose on the fuel pressure regulators port.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Using the scan tool turn ON the fuel pump to pressurize the system.
  10. Check for fuel leaks.
  11. Install the intake plenum refer to Intake Plenum Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.0 (L81).
