Tools Required
Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Automatic Transmission.
- Counterhold the crankshaft
with J 42098
and remove
the flywheel bolts. Discard the flywheel bolts.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
Installation Procedure
- Clean the rear crankshaft flange.
- Install the flywheel to
the crankshaft.
- Coat the new flywheel bolts with thread retaining compound, GM P/N 12345493
or equivalent.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Counterhold the
crankshaft with J 42098
and install the new flywheel bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the flywheel bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).
- Use the J 36660-A
to rotate the flywheel bolts in the following sequence:
Tighten
