Makes 🢒 Cadillac 🢒 2001 🢒 Catera 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Electrical 🢒 Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 345866 Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil filler spout (1) by unlocking the tab and twisting counterclockwise.

    4. Object Number: 345354 Size: SH
  4. Remove the wiring harness channel bolts (1) and position the wiring harness channel out of the way.
  5. Disconnect the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) electrical connector and cut the plastic tie.
  6. Remove the left ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 2 in Engine Controls - 3.0L (L81).
  7. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
  8. Remove the camshaft cover.

  9. Remove the camshaft cover seals.

    10. Important: Ensure all 8 sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil return journals in the cylinder head.

  10. Clean the camshaft cover.
  11. Clean the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 345851 Size: SH
  1. Lightly coat the new seals, including the O-rings, with engine oil prior to installation to assist in holding the O-ring seals to the camshaft cover.
  2. Install the camshaft cover seals.

    3. Object Number: 345856 Size: SH
  3. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealer GM P/N 12345997 at the front and at the back of the seals.
  4. Install the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.

    5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the camshaft cover bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Install the left ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 2 in Engine Controls - 3.0L (L81).
  7. Connect the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) electrical connector and secure the wire with a plastic tie.

    8. Object Number: 345354 Size: SH
  8. Reposition the wiring harness channel and install the bolts (1).

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the wiring harness channel bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  9. Install the oil filler spout (1) by twisting clockwise and snapping in place.
  10. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  11. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .
