Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).

  2. Object Number: 742955  Size: MH
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine coolant temperature/gage sensor (3) and the engine coolant temperature sensor (2).
  4. Remove the hoses from the coolant bridge (1).
  5. Remove the coolant bridge fittings (4) and the coolant bridge.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).
  8. Remove the oil filter housing. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).

  10. Loosen the oil cooler outlet line at the engine block (1).
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Remove the engine oil cooler fitting  (1) from the engine oil cooler cover.
  14. Reposition the oil cooler outlet line (3) in order to access the coolant pipe mounting bolts.

  16. Remove the heater core bypass hose.
  17. Remove the coolant intake pipe hose (1).
  18. Remove the radiator outlet hose (2).
  19. Remove the support bolt (3).
  20. Remove the coolant pipe bolts (5)
  21. Slide the coolant intake pipe (4) rearward under the front of the cowl to remove the pipe.
  22. Remove the intake pipe seal (6).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the intake pipe seal (6).
  2. Slide the coolant intake pipe (4) under the front of the cowl and forward into the proper mounting position.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the coolant intake pipe bolts (5).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant intake pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  6. Install the coolant support intake bolt (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant support intake pipe bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  8. Install the radiator outlet hose (2).
  9. Install the coolant intake pipe hose (1).
  10. Install the heater core bypass hose.

  12. Reposition the oil cooler outlet line (3).
  13. Install the oil cooler outlet line (3) and the fitting (1) to the engine oil cooler cover.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  15. Raise the vehicle.

  17. Tighten the oil cooler outlet line (1) to the engine block.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the line to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  19. Install the oil filter housing. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).
  20. Lower the vehicle.

  21. Object Number: 742955  Size: MH
  22. Install the coolant bridge and fittings.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the fittings to 30 N·m (22 lb ft)

    Install the hoses to the coolant bridge (1).

  24. Connect the electrical connector to the engine coolant temperature/gage sensor (3) and the engine coolant temperature sensor (2) .
  25. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).
  26. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.0L (L81).
