Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
- Perform the following steps to remove the air discharge tube from
the air dryer:
4.2. | Pull the tubing connection from the air dryer. |
- Remove the air intake filter tubing from the vehicle body.
- Counterhold the compressor mounting nuts on the opposite side
of the compressor bracket to remove the compressor mounting bolts from the
compressor bracket.
- Remove the compressor mounting nuts.
- Remove the compressor.
Installation Procedure
- Install the compressor.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Counterhold the compressor
mounting nuts on the opposite side of the compressor bracket to install the
compressor mounting bolts to the compressor bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Route the air intake filter tubing to the vehicle body.
- Clip the air intake filter tubing to the vehicle body.
- Use petroleum jelly to lightly lubricate the seal.
- Connect the air discharge tube to the air dryer.
- Ensure the tube if fully seated to the air dryer fitting.
- Use the clip to secure the tube to the air dryer fitting.
- Ensure the clip is fully seated into the groove on the air dryer
fitting.
- Install the compressor electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
