Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

Inspect the AUDIO fuse for an open.

Is the AUDIO fuse open?

Test the amplifier B+ circuit, at terminal 13, for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Disconnect the amplifier connector.
  2. Test the amplifier B+ circuit, at terminal 13, for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

  1. Reconnect any components and connectors previously disconnected.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Verify that all speakers operate properly.

Do all speakers operate properly?

System OK

  1. Disconnect connector C1 from the radio interface module (RIM).
  2. Test the amp enable circuit for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems. (Test between RIM connector C1 terminal D2 and amp connector terminal 25.)

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Disconnect connector C2 from the RIM.
  2. Test the ground circuit for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems. (Test between RIM connector C2 terminal A1 and amp connector terminal 24.)

  1. Reconnect connectors C1 and C2 to the RIM.
  2. Reconnect the amp connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Measure the voltage on the amp enable circuit.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

11-13 V

Replace the amplifier.

Is the replacement complete?

Replace the RIM.

  1. Short condition may be intermittent at this time. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems for additional information.
  2. Replace the AUDIO fuse.
