  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor relay K8.
  2. Turn the ignition on.

With the windshield wiper/washer switch in the OFF position are the windshield wipers on?

  1. Connect a test light from the battery positive terminal to the wiper motor position switch signal circuit terminal in the wiper motor relay harness connector .
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the low speed position.

Does the test light flash every time the wiper arms are in the park position?

Test and repair the windshield wiper motor position switch signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Continuity and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch off.
  2. Using a DMM measure for voltage at the windshield wiper motor relay harness connector interval switch signal circuit terminal.

Is the voltage within the specified values?

0-0.1 volts

Test and repair the following circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • interval switch signal circuit
    • delay switch signal circuit

Did you find and correct the condition?

Connect a test light from the washer switch signal circuit terminal in the wiper motor relay harness connector to ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Test and repair the washer switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the following circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • wiper motor low speed supply circuit
    • wiper motor high speed supply circuit
    • wiper/washer switch relay functions supply circuit

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
