When you first turn ON the ignition, the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic and seat belt pretensioner module (SDM) performs tests to diagnose critical malfunctions within itself. Then, the SDM proceeds with the RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT test to measure the deployment loop resistances to ensure that they are within their respective normal resistance ranges.
When the ignition voltage is within the normal operating voltage range, the SDM monitors its deployment records to determine all previous commanded deployments.
The DTC will set if any one of the following criteria have been met by the SDM:
• | There has been a driver or passenger frontal air bag commanded deployment. |
• | There has been three pretensioner-only commanded deployments. |
• | There has been three driver side air bag commanded deployments. |
• | There has been three passenger side air bag commanded deployments. |
The SDM turns ON the AIR BAG warning lamp.
This DTC is latched. This DTC will clear when the SDM is replaced.
The SDM is capable of one frontal air bag deployment command, three side air bag deployment commands, and three pretensioner deployment commands. Once any one of these criteria has been met, the SDM requires replacement.
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table:
