The evaporator core is located inside the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module.
Refrigerant exiting theThermal Expansion Valve, enters the evaporator in a low pressure, liquid state. Ambient air, drawn through the HVAC module, passes through the evaporator core. The refrigerant flowing through the evaporator absorbs the moisture and heat from the ambient air. The heat absorbed at the evaporator causes the low pressure liquid refrigerant to boil and vaporize. Boiling the refrigerant changes the refrigerant into a low pressure vapor state, before returning to the compressor.
Since the air passing through the evaporator core becomes dehumidified, condensation will collect on the evaporator core and then drain to the outside of the vehicle. The conditioned air is distributed through the HVAC ducts to the passenger compartment for passenger comfort.
