The parking brake system is applied by pulling the parking brake handle up. Pulling the parking brake handle up puts tension on the parking brake cables. Tension on the cables pulls the parking brake levers forward forcing the brake shoes to expand against the parking brake drums. The parking brake handle is mounted in the center console between the front seats. The parking brake handle is a ratcheting design with a manual release button on the end of the handle.

The parking brake drum on this vehicle utilizes an integral brake drum which is cast into the rear disc brake rotor.

The wire strand parking brake cables are coated with a plastic material for corrosion protection and reduced parking brake effort.

Parking Brake Drum

Do not refinish the parking brake drum contact surface. Replace the rotor if the parking brake system cannot effectively hold the vehicle while all the other parking brake components are functioning properly. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment for additional information.
