- The parking brake shoes must be properly adjusted before adjusting
the parking brake lever. Refer to
Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment
.
- Set the parking brake
lever to the 4th notch.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to
Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Heat Shields Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
Important: Clean and lubricate the exposed threads before attempting to turn the
adjusting nut.
- Loosen the adjuster nut (1) on the parking brake lever shaft (2) until
the parking brake levers are in the at-rest position.
- Tighten the adjuster nut on the parking brake lever shaft until
braking effort occurs while still allowing the wheels to turn.
- Perform the following inspection:
8.1. | Ensure the rear wheels still turn with the parking brake lever
set on the 4th notch. |
8.2. | Ensure the rear wheels are tight with the parking brake lever
set on the 7th notch. |
8.3. | Ensure braking effort is equal at both rear wheels. |
- Install the propeller shaft. Refer to
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
- Install the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to
Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Heat Shields Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Release the parking brake lever.
