  1. The parking brake shoes must be properly adjusted before adjusting the parking brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .

  2. Object Number: 219692  Size: SH
  3. Set the parking brake lever to the 4th notch.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Heat Shields Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  7. Object Number: 219652  Size: SH

    Important: Clean and lubricate the exposed threads before attempting to turn the adjusting nut.

  8. Loosen the adjuster nut (1) on the parking brake lever shaft (2) until the parking brake levers are in the at-rest position.
  9. Tighten the adjuster nut on the parking brake lever shaft until braking effort occurs while still allowing the wheels to turn.
  10. Perform the following inspection:
  11. 8.1. Ensure the rear wheels still turn with the parking brake lever set on the 4th notch.
    8.2. Ensure the rear wheels are tight with the parking brake lever set on the 7th notch.
    8.3. Ensure braking effort is equal at both rear wheels.
  12. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  13. Install the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Heat Shields Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Release the parking brake lever.
