Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Clean any dirt and/or foreign material from the hose and brake pipe fittings.
  3. Remove the steering gear shield nut.
  4. Remove the steering gear shield bolt.
  5. Remove the steering gear shield.
  6. Remove the intermediate brake pipe from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
  7. Remove the intermediate brake pipe from the rear T-fitting near the differential.

  8. Object Number: 219456  Size: SH
  9. Remove the intermediate brake pipe (1) from the underbody clips (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the intermediate brake pipe (1) to the underbody clips (2).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the intermediate brake pipe to the rear T-fitting near the differential.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  5. Install the intermediate brake pipe to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Install the intermediate brake pipe sections (2) to the brake pipe coupling (1) if using sections of pipe.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install the steering gear shield.
  10. Install the steering gear shield bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the steering gear shield bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Install the steering gear shield nut.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the steering gear shield nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  14. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
