Caution: Do not overfill the brake fluid reservoir. Overfilling the brake fluid reservoir may cause the brake fluid to overflow onto the engine exhaust components during brake system service. The brake fluid is flammable and may cause a fire and personal injury if the brake fluid contacts the engine exhaust system components.
Notice: When filling the master cylinder, use only Delco Supreme 11, GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid. Do not use a container which has been used for petroleum based fluids, or a container which is wet with water. Petroleum based fluids will cause swelling and distortion of rubber parts in the hydraulic brake system, and water will mix with brake fluid, lowering the boiling point. Keep all fluid containers capped to prevent contamination.
Flush the complete hydraulic system whenever new hydraulic brake parts are installed. Flush the system if there is any doubt about the grade of brake fluid in the system or if the fluid used contains the slightest trace of mineral oil. If the brake system is ever contaminated with some type of mineral oil replace all the rubber parts subjected to the contaminated fluid. Approximately 0.95 L (1 qt) of brake fluid is required to flush the brake hydraulic system.
