Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 26234 Drive Axle
Seal Installer
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in Wheel Drive Shafts.
- Use a suitable prybar
to remove the seal from the differential.
Important: Take care not to damage the differential housing or the differential
carrier side bearing outer race. Damage may result in leaks upon the reassembly.
- Inspect the sealing surface (1)
of the wheel drive shaft.
- Remove any nicks or burrs.
- Replace the axle shaft should this surface be irreparable.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the lip of the new seal with rear axle lubricant.
- Use the J 26234
to install the drive axle seal (1).
- Install the wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in Wheel Drive Shafts.
- Inspect and fill the lubricant as necessary. Refer to
Lubricant Level Check
