5.1. | Coat the gears with rear axle lubricant. |
5.2. | Coat the shims with rear axle lubricant. |
5.3. | Install the thicker shim (the shim has notches around the outer edge) (3) toward the carrier. |
5.4. | Install the thinner (conical) washer toward the differential side gear (1). |
Important: Because of the tension of the retaining ring, a helper may be necessary to use a small screwdriver to keep the ring centered in the bore while the shaft (1) is driven in.
Important: Do NOT overheat the ring gear. Overheating the ring gear may cause the gear to warp or otherwise be damaged.
Tighten
The ring gear bolts must be torqued in the sequence shown to 115 N·m
(85 lb ft).
