    Notice: Installation of the proper relay is critical. If an enhanced relay -- equipped with a diode -- is installed into a position requiring a standard relay -- equipped without a diode -- excessive current will damage any components associated with the relay or its associated circuits.

  1. Remove fan control relay K26
  2. Test the diagnostic enable circuit of the fan control relay K26 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the relay coil of fan control relay K26 for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the auxiliary engine coolant fan #1 and auxiliary engine coolant fan #2 of the fan control relay K26 for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Repairs.

Connect a 20 A fused jumper between the battery positive circuit of the fan control relay K26 and the electric cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit of the fan control relay K26.

Does the electric cooling fan operate at low speed?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the fan control relay K26. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the supply voltage circuit of the engine coolant fan resistor for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the supply voltage circuit of the electric cooling fan for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the electric cooling fan for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the integrity of the engine coolant fan resistor.

Is the engine coolant fan resistor OK?

Replace the engine coolant fan resistor.

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were previously disconnected.
  2. Verify that the electric cooling fan operates properly at low speed.
