if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel
fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have
a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
- Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Remove the intake plenum. Refer to
Intake Plenum Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Place a shop towel under the fuel pressure regulator to absorb
any lost fuel when removing the regulator.
- Remove the atmospheric vent hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
- Remove the bolt in the clamp that retains the fuel pressure regulator.
- Spread the clamp enough to allow it to be removed from the fuel
pressure regulator.
Important: Note the position of the atmospheric vent on the fuel pressure regulator
so that it can later be installed in the same position.
- Twist the fuel pressure regulator while pulling out to remove
it from the fuel rail.
Installation Procedure
- Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the O-rings on the fuel
pressure regulator before installing it into the fuel rail.
- Twist the regulator while pushing it into the fuel rail until
it is seated.
Important: Be sure to locate the atmospheric vent on the fuel pressure regulator
in the same position that it was originally located in.
- Install the clamp and bolt on the regulator.
Tighten
Tighten the clamp bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the atmospheric vent hose on the fuel pressure regulators
port.
