Was the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock System Check performed?

Go to Step 2

Go to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check .

  1. Remove the ignition switch and the ignition lock cylinder.
  2. Inspect the ignition switch, the ignition lock cylinder and the steering column for any damages or any mechanical failures.

Are the any damaged parts or mechanical failures that would prohibit the key from being removed from the ignition switch?

Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle or Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle for diagnosis.

Is the repair or replacement complete?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Install the ignition switch and the ignition lock cylinder.
  2. Disconnect the lifting magnet connector.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal 1 of the lifting magnet connector and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 6

  1. Remove and inspect fuse #24. Replace the fuse if it is open.
  2. Locate an open a high resistance in circuit A905.
  3. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit A905.
  4. Replace the ignition switch if circuit A905 is OK. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt

Is the repair or replacement complete?

Go to Step 9

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal 2 of the lifting magnet connector and a known good ground.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

Less than 5 ohms

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Replace the automatic transmission lock/unlock switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 9

Replace the lifting magnet assembly. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Is the replacement procedure complete?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the key goes into and out of the ignition switch without any problems.

Does the key go into and out of the ignition switch with no problems?

--
