Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel (IP) compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  2. Remove the cover from the IP compartment door.
  3. Remove the door handle from the IP compartment.
  4. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
  5. Important: The cylinder tumblers are spring-loaded and if not retained with the key, the tumblers will spring out of the cylinder upon removal. If you are not replacing the cylinder, tape the tumblers into place before removing the key. For more information on lock cylinder coding procedures refer to Key and Lock Cylinder Coding .

  6. Unseat the retaining tangs from the lock cylinder with a small screwdriver.
  7. Gently press the cylinder from the back side of the handle out through the front.

Installation Procedure

  1. With the key still in place within the lock cylinder, gently insert the cylinder into the front of the handle until the retainer tangs are seated.
  2. Important: Verify correct cylinder installation by applying moderate pressure to the back side of the cylinder. The cylinder should not move from the mounted position.

  3. Remove the key.
  4. Install the handle to the IP compartment door.
  5. Install the cover to the IP compartment door.
  6. Install the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
