Removal Procedure
- Place the shift control lever in Neutral.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust muffler
to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
- Remove the support transmission with a transmission jack.
- Remove the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
- Lower the transmission enough to provide access to switch.
- Remove the switch cover.
- Remove the switch wire
harness connector (1) from bracket (2). Use a suitable size tool to pry off.
- Remove the transmission
control selector shaft nut.
- Remove the transmission control selector shaft lever from shaft.
- Remove the switch bolts
(1).
- Remove the switch (2) from transmission.
Installation Procedure
- Install switch (2) to
transmission.
- Install the switch bolts
(1) loosely.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the switch bolts (1) to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install the transmission control selector shaft lever to shaft.
- Install the transmission
control selector shaft nut.
- Install the switch wire
harness connector (1) to bracket (2). Use a plastic tie strap if connector
clip is broken.
- Install the switch cover.
- Raise the transmission into position.
- Install transmission crossmember to body bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the transmission crossmember to body bolts to 45 N·m
(33 lb ft).
- Remove the transmission jack.
- Install the exhaust muffler-to-catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter to 40 N·m
(30 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
Switch Adjustment
- Apply the parking brake.
- Position the selector to N.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the transmission cover.
- Remove the cover from the selector lever position switch.
- Remove the nut form the transmission selector lever shaft.
- Disconnect the mode switch electrical connector.
- Connect a multimeter to terminal E and H on the mode switch electrical
connector.
- Loosen both transmission
control selector switch bolts.
- Rotate the mode switch slightly in both directions to determine
the range of electrical contract (approximately 5 degrees).
- Position the mode switch
in the middle of the contact range.

must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or

Tighten
Tighten the transmission control selector switch bolts to 12 N·m
(106 lb in).
- Remove the multimeter and reconnect the wiring harness.
- Install the selector intermediate lever to the selector lever
shaft.
Tighten
Tighten the selector intermediate lever nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the selector lever position switch cover.
- Install the transmission cover.
- Lower the vehicle.
